Lend A Hand Artisans Project
Lend A Hand inspires artists to build and design small works of art in honor of charities. All our products are designed to funnel 100% of proceeds to a given charity or non-profit organization.
Here is the back story:
As a kid I was sure I would never be 'an artist.' I was not able to draw even a single straight line. My paintings were not inspiring and nothing I did seemed to help. I gave up at a young age and turned my attention to other pursuits. I convinced myself I was not ever going to be 'an artist' in my life time.
Then one day I read a book that claimed that learning to draw or paint was not about innate talent, and more about grit, determination, and willingness to look at art in a new light. Rather than a pure talent, art was an expression of one's soul, one's views, and, most importantly, could be taught. It was simply a process and one that is fairly easy to learn.
So I sat down with a 'how to' book, a $7 kit of pencils and a pad of paper and started to draw. That led to painting, and then to the question "Now What?"
So I decided to reach out to others who I imagined were also convinced they could not draw or paint and I suggested that they too give it a try if they were so inclined. To my surprise, every person I spoke with wished they had 'that innate talent' and had thought of art the same way I did.
Once we all learned that we can learn to draw, we began to wonder what we could do with this newfound power. With Shopify at our disposal, we built a website and a business model, to plow our new skills to help non-profit and charity organizations. This is that site and that shop!
We pass along all our proceeds, after paying for our costs, to the non-profits directly. We also blog about our transfers and open our books to anyone who wants to be sure we did what we said we would do.
